Mr. Lemonidis graduated from the Merchant Naval Academy of Chios and joined Livanos Bros. Shipping, rising to the rank of Chief Officer. He then moved to Hannover, Germany where he studied Marine Engineering and subsequently joined Germanischer Lloyd (GL), one of the leading Classification Societies. Mr. Lemonidis moved back to Greece, where he set up GL’s operations for the Mediterranean, Africa and the Middle East Area. After 27 years with GL, he co-founded Ciel Shipmanagement S.A in 2001 along with Mr. Kostis Konstantakopoulos of Costamare Shipping Company, one of the world’s leading independent container ship operators.
Element Shipmanagement S.A., located in Piraeus Greece, was established for the purpose of mainly managing feeder ships ranging from 1100TEU up to 2500 TEU.

Element Shipmanagement S.A. is the offspring of Ciel Shipmanagement S.A., a company founded in 2001 by Messers K. Konstantakopoulos of Costamare Shipping Company and D. Lemonidis, a former Germanischer Lloyd executive.
During Ciel’s 12 year operation, current management staff of Element gained experience in providing technical / commercial management of fully cellular container ships ranging from 440 TEU up to 6700 TEU, all operated by first Class Charterers.
Ships handled over the years were mainly owned by the Costamare Group and AP Moller Group, MSC and German KG House MPC.
Alex’s entire professional career has been in shipping. He trained at Costamare Shipping Company and subsequently joined Ciel Shipmanagement S.A. Alex gained valuable professional experience by working with all the Company’s departments, and eventually became a Director of Ciel Shipmanagement S.A., with responsibility for the Chartering and sale and purchase of vessels. He has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Maritime Operations from Liverpool John Moore’s University and a Diploma in Ship Management from the Hellenic Management Center, the Greek branch of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.
Following his financial studies at London Guildhall University, Constantinos worked for four years in the Shipping Branch and Dealing Room of Doriki Bank. Constantinos then joined the private banking arm of Eurobank, where he stayed for two and a half years. Following a training period at Costamare’s Shipping Accounts Department, Constantinos became the Treasurer of Ciel Shipmanagement and engaged in all financial activities of the Company.
QUALITY ASSURANCE DEPARTMENT
Sofia holds a First Class (Hons) BSc in Biology and Environmental Conservation and Management, an MSc in Forensic Sciences with merit, as well as a PGCE in Science Education by the University of Nottingham. Her graduate academic work in Marine Biology and Conservation won the University’s first place award for her alumni, and she thus presented it at an International Marine Conference. She has also worked in the United Kingdom in the field of Science Education for three years. Upon returning to Greece, she joined Ciel Shipmanagement’s Quality Assurance Department, contributing in activities that safeguarded safety as well as international and environmental legislation compliance. She was assigned responsibilities relating to crew certification and travel, to expand her professional skills in the shipping sector. Sofia ensures continuing professional development not only for herself, but for the rest of Element’s team.
OPERATIONS & CREWING DEPARTMENTS
Capt. Tomas is a Class A’ Captain, with a 17 year’s experience in container vessels. He joined Costamare Shipping Company’s Crew Department as a Crew Manager for two years, before he joined Ciel Shipmanagement as a Port Captain. Thereafter, Captain Tomas joined Element Shipmanagement. His current duties include those of a Senior Port Captain, in addition to being our Crew Manager. He has an ongoing and extensive training record, ensuring his continuous improvement and awareness that his position requires.
A Class A’ Captain, with a 17 years’ experience in container vessels. Capt. Pitychoutis began his career at Costamare Shipping Company where he served on a variety of feeder, Panamax and post-Panamax container vessels. After the completion of a Master’s Degree (M.Sc. in Marine Policy) at Cardiff University he joined Element Shipmanagement as a Master, before being promoted to Port Captain in 2015. His duties include those of a Port Captain and an Environmental Manager. He has an ongoing and extensive training record, ensuring his continuous improvement and awareness that his position requires.
Mr. Koukos is a holder of BSc in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, which he accomplished at the University of Glasgow. He has a wide range of experience in the Shipping Industry’s field. His experience includes both Consultant as well as Project Designer responsibilities. Aristides was a CAD Designer for two projects at Elefsis Shipyard. His career as a Marine Superintendent began evolving 7 years ago at a cement Shipping Company, where he was responsible for a multitude of projects. Joining Element Shipmanagement, he adds his skills and experience to our professional’s team.
Mrs. Toma holds an MA in Humanities from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a Diploma in Crew Management from North West Kent College & Lloyd’s Maritime Academy. Keen to join the Maritime Industry, she has quickly expanded her skills and credentials and is now responsible for the co-ordination of our seamen’s travel requirements, from the moment they leave their doorstep until they board our ships, guaranteeing their safe travel arrangements. Furthermore, she is responsible for ensuring that our crewmembers are fully qualified and always in compliance with STCW. Eleni also arranges for proper renewals & revalidations of certificates and all documentation a seaman shall need prior to embarkation, and liaises with our Manning Agent for our Philippino crewmembers.
A member of the Hellenic Board of Professional Engineers, Mr. Neos is a graduate of the National Technical University of Athens – School of Naval Architecture, Mechanical and Marine Engineering. Mr. Neos started his career in 1993 and gradually rose to the rank of Chief Engineer. Throughout his career, he has been assigned with a broad range of responsibilities, including those of a Senior Project Engineer, responsible for detail engineering and design of various projects, as well as a Naval Architect. Mr. Neos supervises and attends major repairs and Dry Dockings and ensures that his broad knowledge is shared to the benefit of all parties involved, not only within his Department, but with our external co-operators and crew.
Mr. Pitas is a graduate of the Pythagoras Technical School and a holder of Chief Engineer’s Licence. He has 10 years of sea going service as a Chief Engineer in various types of vessels. Mr. Pitas has thereafter ensured that his career path evolved, to also include the added responsibilities of a Superintendent Engineer. Thus, for the past 20 years he has been active as a Superintendent Engineer, with his office based career also involving duties of Technical Manager. He has extensive experience of vessel inspections, Dry Dockings and major repairs and brings considerable Technical experience to Element’s team.
Mr. Kouroumpas holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. Following his graduation, he has exclusively worked in the Shipping sector, with responsibilities in various Departments. He is currently responsible for a wide range of activities within Element’s Technical Department. Additional duties include the monitoring of our fleet’s Class Status & arranging for surveys, maintaining our Technical Library, assisting our fleet with technical issues and electronic equipment onboard, maintaining and updating our PMS. Haris attends and fully co-ordinates all parties responsible for the execution of major repairs and Dry Dockings.
PURCHASING AND ADMINISTRATIONS
Mrs. Tsarouhi completed her BSc studies in Finance / Economics at CSI, CUNY University in New York. Throughout her college years, she held a trainee position in the Management Recruitment Programme of HSBC in New York City. She joined Ciel Shipmanagement in January 2008, with responsibilities as a Fleet Secretary attached to both Operations and Technical Departments. Her current responsibilities in Element Shipmanagement include not only purchasing responsibilities but ensuring the liaison and smooth co-operation of our team with approved suppliers and subcontractors globally in order to provide for our vessels’ needs.
Theodora was born into a family with a nautical background, which inspired her to work in the shipping industry. Having started her graduate studies in the Maritime Field, she concluded that the maritime and shipping sector defined her future aspirations. Therefore, she now is a full time student at HMC, ICS Greek Branch working her way to a prospective career in shipping. Theodora is part of our Purchasing and Administration’s department, cooperating with our suppliers and subcontractors to provide for our vessels and company, acquiring hands on experience along with her academic development.
Ms. Politaki is a graduate of the Athens University of Economics and Business. Having completed a BSc in Management Science of Economics and Business, she has been exposed to a wide range of management, technology and economic theories. In order to solidify her knowledge, she chose to work in diverse types of companies, all the while being keen to join the Shipping Industry. Marianna thus completed her MSc in Shipping Management in ALBA Graduate Business School. After completing her work experience in the Marine Department of a Greek based shipping Company, she joined Element Shipmanagement. Currently, her responsibilities include purchasing duties for the Company’s Technical and Operations department, as well as Administration duties for the Company.
